Briolight interactive products – the interactive sandbox, floor, panel and sensory room equipment – are used in schools, kindergartens, Inclusive Resource Centres and other settings. Their educational activities can involve imagination, reasoning and fine and gross motor skills.
The software was developed with contributions from educators, psychologists and speech therapists, incorporating Ukrainian school curriculum topics and activities for specialist support. Teachers may use the equipment in individual sessions or small groups.
Operating the equipment and planning suitable sessions can require additional training. Although installation teams introduce basic controls, staff turnover and absence during installation can leave gaps in knowledge. Briolight therefore introduced professional development courses.
What happens during training? A partner centre at Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University formed groups of up to ten participants, including existing users and prospective customers.
Technicians demonstrated switching devices on, handling controllers and starting interactive effects. Participants then practised these steps themselves.
The next stage covered less-used functions, including folders of activities tailored to a child, subject or teaching objective. Training also addressed filters, exercise generators, sequencing, settings and levels of difficulty.
Participants could ask questions, discuss future software updates and propose missing activities. The programme also encouraged teachers to develop their own methodological approaches with Briolight developers and to exchange experience with colleagues.
The courses were held in Mykolaiv and introduced different Briolight products, including fine-motor controllers and the speech therapy mirror. Psychologists and speech therapists also contributed. Contact Briolight for current training availability; the 2020 schedule is historical.
