June 2019. Ukrainian Centre for Rehabilitation of Children with Organic Disorders of the Nervous System, Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
Interactive rehabilitation activities had been introduced at the centre in 2018 through equipment donated by Briolight: an integrative floor, interactive panel and interactive sandbox.
Founded in 2007, Briolight is a Ukrainian developer of electronic systems for rehabilitation, advertising, interior spaces and entertainment, with its office and production facilities in Mykolaiv. Before 2013, its work included bespoke trade-marketing electronics for major international companies. The company had also taken part in charitable projects for children with special needs since 2011.
The interactive panel and sandbox were used by special education professionals with children from the age of three. Activities were designed to motivate purposeful hand movements and cognitive engagement, including work with children with cerebral palsy and developmental delays. According to the centre's historical account, approximately 120 children participated in rehabilitation activities using these methods during 2018–2019.
The integrative floor was used for children aged three and older with motor impairments. Its activities involved balance, coordination while standing, logical thinking and cognitive engagement. A child could interact with a virtual environment that responded to their movements, providing visual and sound feedback. Activities included limb movements and maintaining body position, with the level of difficulty increasing over time.
The report stated that 67 children completed a course of sessions using the interactive floor in 2018. These numbers describe the historical programme and do not, by themselves, establish clinical effectiveness.
Interactive formats can help specialists introduce playful, active participation in a broader rehabilitation programme. Individual suitability and outcomes must be assessed by the professionals responsible for the child's care.
